Vintage Snowmobiles of the Inland Northwest had a little gathering in St. Maries Idaho at the
annual Paul Bunyan Days Festival. Sno Pro USA arrived and found this little show packed
with Vintage Snowmobile excitement. It is great to see sleds that you can pull the rope on and
inhale the 2 stroke spirit. Father son vintage sled collectors Ray and Troy Bergstresser from
Spokane Washington were there with 5 trophy winners that set the mark high for restoration.
Ellis Vawter and Troy Sibert from the St. Maries area had some breath taking Polaris sleds
that really turn back the clock. Northwest Museum of Vintage Snowmobile owner Jerry
Kienbaum was present with his display and he took home the trophy with his antique
Polaris & Trailer. Original patina sleds for the trail and race track came out of the woods
to be displayed which is a real treat. The high light of the day was visiting with Larry Fitzgerarld
from Colville Washington. He has a great collection of Ski Doo and Arctic Cat Sleds.
When it comes to one cylinder engines, he stold the show with an incredible cackling 406cc
engine in a custom Ski Doo. Larry's Innovation as a Machinist is consistant with his sleds
and made for eye and ear popping entertainment.Check out the Sno Pro USA Special Feature Video at the bottom of this page.
Above the Festival was pumping with food and the street was full of local displays.
One event after another took place. Logging and Pool events, Bed and Outhouse Races, Motorcycle Enduro Race and the classic Tug-o-War events were pumping while
down on the football field the Vintage Snowmobiles gathered. St. Maries wraps
the celebration up with a Parade and the evening Fireworks Show that gathers over
12,000 people to the event. This area of Idaho is known for it's incredible winters
and great snowmobile riding. Many of us at the show remarked on breaking trails in
this areas mountains and fields. St. Maries is a great non-commercialized area to
enjoy with all of the modern convenience and the great outdoors at your finger tips.
Ellis Vawter of the Vintage Snowmobiles of The Inland Northwest Club with his
1971 Polaris Mustang 488 and matching Trailer. Ellis was a Polaris Dealer in Idaho
and had a great story to share about this sled. "Sometimes you own a sled, sell it
then buy it back for more." Original passion has a price, and man this Mustang is
worth it. Super clean, brilliant and full of great memories. This is the all American
snow train for serious vintage snowmobile enthusiast.
This Playmate deserves a centerfold display. Troy Sibert's 1969 Polaris Playmate gave everyone a smile with his show sled. Incredible restoration, detail and a perfect archive of a Vintage Polaris Snowmobile.
Ray Bergstresser's Ski Doo and Yukon King. These are familiar sleds that Ray brings to the shows in the Northwest. Grab your open face helmet, pack a lunch and head to the mountain. These trail sleds were known for cutting trails through the trees in their day.
